The Institute of Environmental Radioactivity (IER) was established on July 1st, 2013, as an open hub for advanced research on the movement of environmental radioactivity in Fukushima Prefecture. IER is run under joint administration by Fukushima University and other partner universities/research institutions from around the world which possess experience and expertise in this field.
Our mission is to support the revitalization of Fukushima Prefecture from an academic perspective by scientifically clarifying the movement and long-term effects of radioactivity to the environment resulting from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident.
IER also aims to function as a base for research located in Fukushima, and is actively accepting and supporting international scientists wishing to conduct research in Fukushima for temporary periods spanning from several months to several years while promoting joint, advanced research.
IER is inviting applications for the position of a tenured, full-time professor. Successful applicants will be required to:

possess extensive international research experience,

conduct research and field studies in one of the nine fields listed under the three divisions (Radiation Morphology, Radioisotope Geoscience, and Measurements and Forecasting) as shown in the attached table,

assume responsibility for a variety of activities associated with the IER,

demonstrate a passion for the field of education, as the IER plans to establish a graduate school in the near future.
