Project Title: Radionuclides in the Environment - Migration and Speciation

There is one open position for an Invited Scientist (IS) to perform R&D within the project Earth Systems, Radioactivity and Cultural Heritage in the Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Multi/04349, with the financial support of FCT/ MEC through national funds and if applicable co-financed by the ERDF under the PT2020 Partnership Agreement:

Scientific Area: Environmental Sciences: Environmental Radioactivity.

Eligibility:
• Ph.D. in Radiochemistry, Geosciences or related scientific areas; preferential skills are: experience, including radioanalytical and mass spectrometry techniques, and knowledge of speciation modelling.

Work plan:
This program intends to develop studies on radionuclides transfer in the environment. The selected candidate should develop and be leader of scientific activities in this domain, aiming at consolidating and further expand the research activities of C2TN within the thematic strand Earth Systems, Radioactivity and Cultural Heritage. These activities must include: i) development and application of analytical and radioanalytical techniques on environmental issues connected with the migration and separation of radionuclides in  ecosystems; (ii) modelling; iii) national and international networking on environmental radioactivity and radioecology; iv) submission of projects for external funding.

Local of work: The project will be developed at the Center for Nuclear Sciences and Technologies (C2TN), Campus Tecnológico e Nuclear, Estrada Nacional 10 (km 139,7), 2695-066 Bobadela LRS, of Instituto Superior Técnico, under the supervision of Doctors: Maria José Madruga and Maria Isabel Prudêncio.

Duration of the grant: The scholarship is granted for a time period of 12 months, starting at September  2015. The grant contract can be renewed up to a maximum of 28 months.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly maintenance allowance is € 2,060 in agreement with the monthly maintenance stipend table of the grants directly attributed by FCT, I.P. within the country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).

Selection method: The selection will be based on the: curriculum vitae and experience of the candidate, motivation letter, a document with a concise research project on migration and speciation of radionuclides in the environment (maximum 5 pages) and an interview. The research project must show clearly its novelty, the working plan to be implemented in accordance with the project main goal above referred and how the skills and background of the candidate are an added value. Each item will be valued on a scale of 0-20, with the following weighting: Curriculum vitae and experience (45%), research project (30%), motivation letter (10%) and interview (15%).
