Naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) is widespread on a global scale in both natural and anthropogenic environments, including those associated with mining, oil and gas, and phosphate extraction industries.
A new Task Group will be formed gathering high-level expertise from different fields: ecological science, professionals in environmental protection applied to radiation and industry representatives managing NORM waste.
The group will then meet routinely to summarize knowledge about risks, identify gaps in the science and policy areas, and enhance guidelines/thresholds for radiological protection in the context of NORM.
