[ in memoriam ]


It is with much sadness that the Union learns that René Kirchmann, Honorary General secretary of IUR, died on November 10, aged 83.

Many IUR members worldwide have shown their great consideration to an inspiring colleague, and they are expressing their deep sorrow after the death of a man who was well known as an optimistic, lively and very dear friend.

Everyone also remembers that René Kirchmann was one of the founders of our Union. He helped with energy and insight to make it an international organisation and allowed to its recognition in the field of Radioecology.

This bright Scientist has devoted forty years to Radioecology and published over 300 publications in the fields of radiotracers in agriculture, radioecology (aquatic and terrestrial), radioprotection. He was widely honored and received many awards and medals for his pioneering work and his devotion to Science.

The Union expresses sincere condoleances to his family and relatives.

René Kirchmann is and will be always in our heart and memory.
