IUR establishes closer links with NREA

[ Towards federating Environmental Radioactivity Associations ]

On the event of the International Conference NRE VIII that was held in Buzios, Brazil, in October 2007, the President of IUR met the Executive Board of the Natural Radiation Environment Association (NREA) in order to explore opportunities for establishing closer links between the two sister Organisations. NREA is a recently established Association that aims to discuss and resolve issues regarding the natural radiation environment, technologically enhanced natural radiation and naturally occurring radioactive material.

The IUR President has been invited to present the goals and purposes of IUR to the membership of NREA during its 1st General Assembly, an opportunity that he exploited to encourage also overall collaboration between members.

Whilst the two Organisations are now busy on formalising a detailed Memorandum of Agreement, decision has already be taken to work out a common new Task Group that will be dedicated to NORMs and TENORMs, with emphasis on radioecology and environmental relevant issues.

It is expected that other Organisations, as well as industries, wiil also show interest in joining this initiative (IAEA, Oil and Gas Industry).
